small_Video-Poker_0.jpgVideo Poker is a computer console based gambling game that works on the lines of the slot machine. As casinos started getting bigger and more modern, so did the games incorporated in them. Video poker along with the slot machine was first conceived in the mid 1970’s accompanied by the development of the personal computer. All these systems required were a TV screen and a control unit, which could be programmed to deal cards.

The Video poker revolution brought a new lease of life to casinos suffering from obsolete games and wiped out bank accounts. With computers being the phenomenon that they were, it created a lot of interest in this computerized console style of gambling. The gambling industry grew exponentially, as these consoles became the order of the day. The Video Poker game itself is based on betting, where players bet on the hand that they have, to be the same as the hand that is allotted to be a part of the winning schedule. As simple as it sounds, however, the winning hands are placed only on the rarest of card combinations. Video Poker also has several variations including the infamous “Deuces Wild” and “Multi Player Poker”. There is a Full Pay mode where the player has the maximum chances of winning a bet only upon placing the maximum amount of credits. The commercial usage of these computerized consoles is to be performed only upon possession of a valid gaming license. All the machines that are used for this purpose are checked by the respective legal gaming authorities to ensure fairness. It is also required by the gaming authorities that the computer generates cards and numbers as randomly as during real play, obviously adhering to computational limits.

It is safe to say that Video Poker and Slot machines along with their more modern avatars have contributed significantly to the world of gambling, be it entertaining the players or their owners.
